Butcher cows traded fully steady this week. Good fleshed kill cows traded from $215-230. Leaner types that were sound traded from $205-230. Good bulls were trading pretty much steady to a top of $263.50.  Despite the turbulence in the futures market the feeder cattle traded steady to last weeks trade. Good groups of quality calves continue to trade strong, enduring the pressure on the market. This drop in the feeder market mirrors the drop we saw at the same time of the year as last fall. This trend was only a blip on the radar as it recovered into December and never looked back. As is typical for this time of year we are seeing calves that have lost their bloom. Calves that are still on pasture are likely having to try harder to get a good meal. The fall run is officially underway and buyers are seeing thousands of calves every week. Buyers can pick out stale, short weaned calves a mile away. If you want your calves to look bouncy and healthy at the sale, DO NOT WEAN THEM FOR TWO WEEKS AND THEN BRING THEM TO TOWN.

ALSO ANY ANIMALS THAT ARE LAME, BLIND, CARRYING RUPTURES ARE ALSO CONSIDERED COMPROMISED. SUCH ANIMALS WILL BE SUBJECT TO FINES IF DETECTED BY CFIA AT ALL AUCTION MARKETS.

Horned cattle are beginning to be discounted more and more all the time. If you want your cattle to bring a premium price they must be horn free.

If you are planning on selling calves in the next month or so, please call ahead to book your cattle with us. If we know how many cattle are coming it allows us to inform buyers so they can have adequate trucks available.

 A REMINDER TO PRODUCERS TO GET YOUR PREMISE ID NUMBERS FROM THE GOVERNMENT. THIS IS GOING TO BECOME MANDATORY IN 2020. ALL PRODUCERS WILL NEED TO FILL OUT MANIFESTS WHENEVER THEY TRANSPORT CATTLE FROM HOME TO EITHER AUCTION MARTS OR PASTURES. THESE MANIFESTS WILL HAVE TO INCLUDE YOUR PREMISE ID NUMBERS AS PART OF THE NEW NATIONAL TRACIBILITY PROGRAM.
